Ninja movie

I watched a ninja movie last night. It was Red Shadow, by the same guy who directed Samurai Fiction. It was pretty good. A bit too much melodrama, and too little crazy ninja antics, but I've noticed that in a lot of Japanese stuff. They'll go from slapstick to melodrama, then back, within the same ten minutes. And unless it's done well, it doesn't usually gel right. In anime or in regular movies. But it was enjoyable, and had good funny bits, and was very pretty. Though I coulda done with less of the meditation video style pictures of streams and leaves.

We also watched Napoleon Dynamite, which I totally don't understand why people like it so much. The last twenty minutes or so were funny, but the first hour+ was watching somebody's boring crappy high school life. I had enough boring crappy life in high school as it was, thanks.

It's interesting... most of the geeks I know seem to give Napolean Dynamite a solid "eh...", but everyone else seems to like it. Don't quite know why. Haven't seen it myself, though.

Too much like high school, I guess. And other people figured it gave them a chance to laugh at geeks again? I dunno. Then there's the last twenty minutes, when the geeks win, to try and win back the geeks. Which also had few of the only funny bits.
