Today is the birthday of one of the patron saints of mad science grumpy visonaries, Nikola Tesla. In lieu of doing anything myself, of course, I'll just point you at a) Google's nifty logo today (seriously, you don't need a link to google), b) The Davenport Sisters' Clockwork Cabaret episode and birthday card about Nikola Tesla, and c) apparently there's a hard rock band called Tesla too.

A month and a bit without a computer and I totally get out of the habit of LJ.  I didn't even post on my birthday yesterday or anything.  So, what's going on?

I'm in classes, that's part of what's kept me busy.  Taking math, math, engineering that's math, drawing (for engineers) and materials.  I've got an internship with an engineering company, which basically means filing and some paperwork and learning things.  And working part time at yet another Starbucks.  Haven't unpacked everything yet.  Bought a laptop more powerful than my desktop, but haven't even needed it yet.  Watching MIT opencourseware for some of the classes while I'm doing homework for those classes.

That's about all for the moment, plenty to keep me busy lately.  I'll try and get back to posting more.  And reading my LJ more too, I haven't forgotten you all.  I'm just busy.

This has not been the most exciting birthday ever. I've spent most of it sitting around keeping half an eye on roofers at my parents' house (because said roofers didn't tell my parents they'd be here today until today) and playing Civ3 and downloading mods for it, which I didn't even realize existed. I now have better terrain for it, but to install the Really Cool Program that makes all the graphs like I want and lets me automate stupid micromanagement and puts everything in one list, I need to install .NET, which means I need to install IE 5.01, which I'm not-at-all surprisingly reluctant to do.

But I have no awesome plans for my birthday anyway. No party arranged, and I haven't even got any things I really really want to get. There's a few CDs and DVDs and books and things I'd kinda like to get, buy "kinda like to get" isn't really enough to make a birthday list.

And birthdays in general seem like they're less the past few years. I wish I could be all excited about them, like [livejournal.com profile] theferrett, but it's harder. Partly because there's not usually an awesome party, or awesome presents I'm looking forward to getting. I don't know enough people who live anywhere concentrated enough to have a good party, really. Birthdays should be awesome, though. Well, every day should be awesome, but birthdays especially so. But with school starting and my car dying and no bits of consumerism I HAVE to have, my birthday kept slipping in importance. Which I really should rectify. Unfortunately, me and everybody I know are too poor to pay for one of the good hookers, the kind that convincingly pretend they're not bored of the whole thing. Maybe I'll go post desperate cries for attention birthday threads on some of the forums I hang out on.

And plan something cooler for tomorrow. Because birthdays being Just Another Day shouldn't be part of "being and adult".
