Liberal Master Narratives

Over on the Daily Howler talks about the need for liberals to have "master narratives" like the Republican's lines about "out of touch elites", "liberal media" and "liberals hate traditional values/America".

One of the ones he suggested is "Right-wingers lie like this all the time". Which is, broadly, true. Rush Limbaugh's entire career is based on hate and lies. Bush stirred up anti-gay hatred during his election campaign. USANext is trying to attack the AARP as "anti-soldier" and "pro-gay" and "liberal". Which are lies, irrelevant, and irrelevant, respectively.

I can think of a couple other "Master Narratives." "Irresponsible government" would be one. Tax shifts off the rich, while we're at war, tax shifts off the rich and then trying to defund Social Security, etc. And something relating to poking about in everybody's bedrooms, but I can't think of a good way to phrase that right now.

'tax shifts off' isn't emotional heavy language.

"paying off" works better.

"Paying off the rich while the country is at War. Paying off the rich while defunding Social Security. Paying off the rich while expecting you and me to shoulder the burden." And so forth.

Hmm, good point. I wasn't really worrying about it too much, since maybe 20 people read my LJ. Heh. And I couldn't call them tax cuts, after the other post I made, because they're not. I really should talk to more people than just my friends who read my LJ, though, and then it matters.
