forsythSo, remember those promises of "new journalism"? Remember how blogs became the "Next Big Thing" and are going to revitalize politics?
It's bullshit, 100%.
The blogosphere isn't some magic shining light of truth. It's a million people, all talking, and what's the things that get the most attention? Sex. Drugs. Scandal. Gossip. And politics of name-calling and hate. On both sides, but mostly on the right. Because now, the head of CNN International resigned over off-the-record comments he might have said that might have maybe been implying that the US armed forces had targeted journalists in Iraq, then clarified and corrected. Because a bunch of right-wing blogs and regularly commenting idiots like Ann "How the FUCK Does She Still Have a Job" Coulter and so on made a big deal out of them. FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
It's not news, or correcting the "liberal media." It's partisan witch hunts for when people don't seem to properly toe the Republican line. Which makes them "anti-american." Like the "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth." Truth doesn't matter any more. It's just spin.
This is our brave new world. Where Pro-Confederacy writers can make books full of garbage and lies that hit the NYTimes bestseller list. Joining the exalted ranks of Ann "Lying Bitch" Coulter and Sean "Wanker" Hannity and other famous conservative liars.
Welcome to the brave new world. If blogs replace the "liberal media", you're going to end up getting your news from some guy in a basement, who gets his from Rush Limbaugh. Journalistic standards and truth are for wimps. Especially when the facts are objectively anti-American.
