forsythThe Pentagon is intensively debating an option that dates back to a still-secret strategy in the Reagan administration’s battle against the leftist guerrilla insurgency in El Salvador in the early 1980s. Then, faced with a losing war against Salvadoran rebels, the U.S. government funded or supported "nationalist" forces that allegedly included so-called death squads directed to hunt down and kill rebel leaders and sympathizers. Eventually the insurgency was quelled, and many U.S. conservatives consider the policy to have been a success . . .
One military source involved in the Pentagon debate . . . suggests that new offensive operations are needed that would create a fear of aiding the insurgency. "The Sunni population is paying no price for the support it is giving to the terrorists," he said. "From their point of view, it is cost-free. Holy fucking shit. Do these people not learn anything? Have they no morals? They're discussing training death squads, to go out and kill and terrorize civilians. Holy fucking shit. There's a name for people who threaten and kill civilians, it's TERRORISTS. Have they no concept of what happened in El Salvador? How many people the death squads killed? Do they not remember how well tactics like those worked in Vietnam? They're planning on training Iraqis to go kill and kidnap other Iraqis, including civilians who know the targets. Holy fucking shit. They're training terrorists to terrorize all the Iraqis who aren't "on our side", and kick the brewing civil war into high gear. Does this administration not have ANY morals, or ANY knowledge of history? Remember that guy we used to be hunting? Bin Laden? He was trained by the CIA to fight the Soviets. How many of these terrorists they want to train would come back and attack us in twenty years? They want to create groups to DELIBERATELY TARGET CIVILIANS.
