How to fix Social Security
Jan. 1st, 2005 05:53 pmIn one easy step.
Apparently, for reasons I don't pretend to understand, Social Security taxes only apply to the first $90,000 of income. See here. Now, I don't have any specific numbers, but I'd be willing to wager that if we extended this to cover all of anyone's income, it would take care of any funding problems. And, why shouldn't the rich people pay the same part of their income as everybody else? Right now funding Social Security falls more on middle class and especially poor workers. It's fair, it's simple, and it solves the problems elegantly and simply. Sounds good to me.
