A Reflection on the Christmas Story

Whatever happened to the gold, frankincense, and myrrh, anyway? Sold to buy diapers for baby Jesus? Used to bribe soldiers to get across the border into Egypt? I mean, they're really not practical gifts for either a newborn or a budding family.

They got shoved into the box labeled "Messianic Symbolism" that Mary and Joseph kept in the attic.

Now, on the subject, why don't you ever hear the myrrh verse of "We Three Kings" anymore (last place I can remember it was from the Claymation Christmas Special from the eighties) more carols need the downer verses.

Heh. That's the "good" news... myrrh has one use, and everyone gets to use it.

That's my favorite verse of "We Three Kings" as well.
