The entire US government has become one of those gruesome car wrecks that you can't look away from. John Ashcroft, the batshit insane guy who lost his congressional seat to a dead man, thinks calico cats are tools of the devil, and is one of the worst singers I've ever heard, is stepping down. Now, normally, this would be a cause for cheers and praise and good old fashioned rioting in the streets. Except for this. The man George Bush has picked to replace John Ashcroft is none other than Alberto Gonzales. He's been around before, you may remember him from such other fiascoes as the Torture Memos, representing Enron (yes, that one), shielding Bush from problems with drunk driving, calling the Geneva Conventions "quaint", allowing the President to arbitrarily determine people to be "enemy combatants", and basically thinks that during war, the President should be able to do, y'know, whatever. Oh, just read the Wikipedia article.

Now, sure, he's got an inspiring life story, and he's Hispanic, but so what? The fact that he's Hispanic doesn't automatically mean he's not incompetent, inappropriate for the job, or, judging from the torture memos, plausibly evil.

THIS IS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR WHEN YOU VOTED FOR BUSH, PEOPLE. FOUR MORE YEARS OF INCOMPETENCE, SECRECY, ARROGANCE, TORTURE, AND WORSE.

And to all of my foreign friends, I'm sorry. I'm so so so sorry. President Bush and his people do not represent America. At least not the America I know, the America everybody admires that's a beacon of freedom. And please remember I didn't vote for him, just in case we, y'know, need to flee the country when they decide to start rounding up dissenters as "enemy combatants". But I'm not leaving yet. I'm staying and fighting, because, y'know what? This is MY country, and I don't want to see these fools fuck it up any more than they have.
