And president Bush again makes my head explode.

The one bill he's vetoed the first bill of the ENTIRE time he's been in office, and it's a broadly supported bill to expand stem cell research. Because "It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect, so I vetoed it," Bush said.

A moral boundary our decent society needs to respect.

A moral boundary our decent society needs to respect...

THE GUY WHO LIED US INTO A WAR AND AUTHORIZED FUCKING TORTURE IS LECTURING US ABOUT MORAL BOUNDARIES OF TINY CLUMPS OF UNDIFFERENTIATED CELLS. THAT ARE NOW JUST GOING TO BE THROWN IN THE GARBAGE.

"Several polls have shown a clear majority of Americans support the research, which would use embryos that already exist in fertility clinics and would otherwise be thrown out to search for cures of conditions like diabetes, spinal cord injuries, and Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases."

THAT'S the moral line our "decent society" needs to respect? Instead of, say, NOT BOMBING CHILDREN AND LYING TO THE COUNTRY AND TORTURING PEOPLE AND PUTTING YOUR INCOMPETENT CRONIES IN CHARGE OF FEDERAL AGENCIES THAT PEOPLES LIVES DEPEND ON? MORAL LINE MY ASS! AND his moral line requires we not use these embryos for stem cell research, so instead they're going to be thrown in the GARBAGE. Which the President is fully aware of. If he's not, that's even scarier than the fact he's blatantly lying and throwing people's lives to his fundamentalist base. WORST. ADMINISTRATION. EVER.

To paraphrase someone else, "Remember kids, it's okay to make 28 embryos to get a woman of 50 pregnant. But heaven forbid the extra 27 get used for science."

My mother and I are both pretty strongly against abortions in general, but pro-choice. It IS the mother's choice, but it's still a little life you're getting rid of for convience's sake. If it's to save a mother's life, that's more likely.

We also have accepted that women aren't bloody likely to stop aborting anytime soon, and as we hate waste, it'd be a great thing to use them to save more lives with those stem cells.

These aren't abortions, though. These are extra eggs created for In-Vitro Fertilization. Fertility clinics. They make extras in case the first doesn't take. And they freeze them. Then they throw them out eventually. And Bush has said they have to throw them out, not use any of those tiny clumps of undifferentated cells for stem cell research. (They HAVE to be tiny clumps of undifferentiated cells, because that's what stem cells are. Cells that can end up turning into any cell in the human body.)

Throwing them out is just WASTE!
And we don't cotton t'that.

That still falls in line with what I mentioned. If people are going to continue to create the basis for life and not use all of it, either let someone else use it for life or use it to save the lives already there.

(I'm aware of what stem cells are, dear, and why they're so important to study. The idea of experimenting on humans is still somewhat icky, but humans that are going to die anyway should get the chance.)
