I've come to realize that for the most part, I'm boringly normal. But the thing is, I can't work up the enthusiasm to be interestingly weird. Part of it's because so many ways people try to be interestingly weird seem forced and basically stupid, like silly clothes or goofy affectations. And partly it seems like too much work for too little reward.

It's a matter of perception and perspective, not effort. Just yesterday, I was having a conversation with one of my sister's family friends, and he was remarking that all of the people he knows in my family are, to his eyes, "weird". Of course, he meant that in a good way.

Doing things your own way may make perfect sense to you and be totally weird to somebody else. An example that I just thought up (and that I don't do)...

Wearing ear muffs when it's cold--perfectly rational.

Hanging your ear muffs from the rear-view mirror of your car just in case you have to drive someplace cold on very short notice--rational, but can be seen as interestingly weird by somebody else.

Wearing ear muffs any and every day no matter what the weather is--stupidly weird (as opposed to interestingly weird), and not worth the effort.
