An Essence, Not an Example.
Oct. 30th, 2005 02:55 amA flute all alone in the dark, repeating a simple melody until there is enough to loop on its own. Drums creep in and settle down into a spiral with the strength to build on. When the rhythm is secure, the horns bounce in, with chimes darting around their blares. They all play out the pattern until it connects to itself; then hand it off. Machina and musician blend seamlessly, not so they cannot be told apart, but so none can tell where their boundaries lie. Above it all, variations crafted so carefully they cannot be told from the spontaneous.
(I completely don't understand what makes some of these comment-worthy and others not. Aside from it seeming the ones I toss off in fifteen minutes do better than the ones I labor over.)
