The crash of glass echoed up from the hole, then faded. "Well, that's that load out of the way," the hauler said.
"But where does it go?" his son asked.
"Nobody knows. But away, and that's good enough. People say the hole has no bottom, so maybe it falls forever."
"But it has to go somewhere, doesn't it? What about when the hole fills up?"
"This is the Cave of Holes. There's always more holes. Some of them, stuff goes in, others, it comes out. We keep the stuff we can use that comes out, and the rest goes back."
