In Which I Geek about Magic

forsythToday was the Ravnica release event at the local hobby store.
The format was Sealed Luck, since Sealed is all about what you open. Luckily for me, I opened some really good stuff, almost all in black/green, with just enough good white to make a splash worthwhile. I went 3-0 in matches, 6-1-0 in games, then since there wasn't time for another round, I played the other guy who'd gone undefeated and won 2-0 over him. I think there was someone else who was 2-0-1, and if we'd done another round, I mighta gotten paired against him, but. I feel like I earned my first place.
I was going to make it all linked, but it seems Wizards doesn't have the cards in Gatherer yet. So you just get names and a link to the spoiler. Here's the decklist:
Land:

If I was going to make one change, I'd have played an extra forest and one less swamp. Everything green I had only needed 1 green, but I lost 1 game thanks to not drawing a forest the entire game. Though I never had trouble finding BB for the things that needed it. So basing things off one game where I kept a hand with just 3 swamps and no other land, then never drew a forest is probably silly. Especially since I almost won that anyway.

I didn't realize it until I read it during the game I got it out, but the Forests Woodwraith Corrupter makes into creatures don't change back at end of turn. No wonder it's rare. A pretty good mana curve, topped of by two bomb beasties.

Solid removal, a couple combat tricks, and some token generators.
All in all, really solid Black/Green, with really good white for a splash. And enough mana fixing that I almost never had trouble having the mana I needed. It helps that except for Brainspoil, Keening Banshee, and Woodwraith Corrupter, everything only needed 1 of the appropriate color. Okay, so a couple needed multiple hybrid black or green, but with the hybrid, it didn't matter. I almost always had B/G, GG, or BB available for the guildmage, and by the time I had six mana, I ALWAYS had GGG, GGB, GBB, or BBB.
Also, I opened one of the U/B new duals. Only gotten one out of... 18 packs and 2 tournament packs now. (6 of the packs were prizes) Man, black/green is going to be strong in constructed, too. All sorts of things for the Rock to add.
But for now, a winner is me!
Also, since everybody else was throwing out or ripping up the PT player cards, I just took them. So far, I've seen uh... five I've actually heard of, and only two of them I heard of from before I quit. Dave Humphries and Kai. Terry Soh, Bob Maher, and Tim Aten I've heard of since I started playing again. Mostly on Wizard's site. I think most of the ones I've heard of have gone on to poker. Wonder if any of the players I used to know on IRC are still playing. There were a few PT players who came around there and I actually knew to an extent.
And I went on IRC for Magic because I was geeking, and heard the best use for the Pro Tour Player cards. Nobody wanted them at the store, so I ended up with a bunch. Use them for tokens. I should snagged them all. "I attack with Kai, Dave, and Terry." Heh.
