This is the first part of something that's been poking at my brain for a while. A mad science musical, starring my "villain" over on the Gaming Guardians Fora. Dr. Shiney, the mad scientist. (If you want to read his profile, click here.)

Does a Text-based musical even work? )

The robot was content. No, more than that, it was happy, as much as its limited programming allowed. It had its tools and nuclear batteries that would power it for a millennium. Its task stretched before it, clear and unambiguous. It was already 1% complete.

And so the robot methodically wandered the endless dunes with its duster, vacuum, and fusion laser. Behind it, it left neat rows of sand, carefully seared solid so it wouldn't blow around and make a mess. The robot started to whistle a cheerful little tune on the radio bands, broadcasting simple joy to the universe.

The human brain is wired to flee boredom. Tedium is not just mind-numbing, but actually kills brain cells. There's always some who take it too far and end up drowning in a sea of constantly changing stimuli.

But that's what makes the internet so addictive. There's always something new just two clicks away. What, you think that's an accident? Come on, THINK. Snap your brain out of its click-drugged circles. Who benefits when the best and the brightest are busy writing Buffy fanfic? You already know the answer. You just don't want to admit it. It's NO CARRIER *!@#*******
