LJ's interest screen is, well, interesting. If you think about it too much, anyway. It's entirely freeform, so whatever you want to put in, can go in.

The thing is, if I wanted, I could probably spend hours just putting things in. Big categories, then things inside those categories, and shiny things that catch my interest...

But it leaves me with a quandary, and I'm not even sure how much it really matters. So I just update it every so often, usually when I'm poking around in somebody else's userinfo, comparing friendslists or things like that, and see something that makes me go "hey, yeah!"

So far I haven't actually USED the interests to go hunting for other people to meet or anything, but maybe I should.

Or I should go hunting communities, and post things in them. And play attention-whore, basically, trying to get people to look at me and read what I think. Hijack people's minds, a la Warren Ellis's instructions he posted on [livejournal.com profile] misterlseepless a while back.

Via [livejournal.com profile] bonerici, a post about modeling reality that fits with some of the other things I've been thinking about and talking about here.

The things you find when you go looking over LJs of people you used to know from IRC.

I watched Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey recently, and they had the "play a game with Death" thing. If you win, you go back, if you lose, you stay dead.

So... What's the downside? I mean, really. You're already dead, so being more dead isn't really possible. It's risking nothing. So what's the downside? And it's not just from that, it's been in a number of other movies and myths and stuff. Seems like a get out of death free card.

It is a plain, unadorned silver ring. I haven't seen it in well over a year, I have no idea where it is, though I know where it was.

I had been searching for a simple silver ring for myself for a good while. And I found it in this little shop on the way to Yosemitie, it fit me perfectly. So I bought it. Then the person I was out visiting at the time gave me a ring, to remember her by, so we traded, and I gave her that one. And there it stayed, though it was too big for any of her fingers but her thumb. The one she gave me was really much more valuable, but it wasn't the value that was important, it was the symbol. Not of anything legal, or official, but of emotions.

Things happened, the kind you try not to think about and don't usually want to talk about except with maybe a few select people, or much later on, and in the end, things ended, not on the best of notes. I sent her back her ring, because she asked, but didn't ask for any of my stuff back, including the ring. I didn't want it, or to look at it, and without the emotions attached, they were just things, and reminded me of emotions I felt best buried then. So as far as I know, the ring still resides somewhere in California.

And I haven't worn a ring since.
