Profanity

I'm of the opinion that there's times when profanity is called for, it's the only way to properly express what you're trying to say. Such as when the would-be Attorney General is an evil fuck who tried to justify torture. Oh, and he made sure anything that might've justified not executing inmates didn't come up when our Dear President was governor of Texas. And he lied to Congress. About helping get Bush out of jury duty where a past drunk driving conviction woulda come up, but hey. If it takes "Nanny issues" to stop him from taking power, so be it.

This post from the Rude Pundit explains. (NSFW)

I can't fucking believe we're living in a world where he's considered nearly a shoe-in to become Attorney General. My country, what has happened to you?

That, and the powers to smite my enemies and see them driven before me. For then I shall wreak great vengeance upon the liars, the torturers, the swindlers, the profiteers, the scumbags, and the theocrats, and yeah, there shall be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth.

This has gone too far.

(Notice to the Secret Service, FBI, etc: This is what is referred to as metaphor and exaggeration, a poetic device for expressing outrage and indignation.)

See for yourself.

"3. You

Crimes: You gaze idly at the carnage around you, sigh, and go calmly back to your coffee and your People magazine. You can’t stop buying useless crap, though you’re drowning in a deepening pool of debt. You think you’re an activist because you bitch all day on the internet, but you reelect the same gangsters at a 99% rate. You consider yourself informed because you waste a significant portion of your life watching the same three news stories cycle over and over again on your gargantuan, aerodynamic television set while you eat processed food. You really thought everything would be okay if Kerry won. Not only do you believe in an invisible man who magically farted out the universe, you also excoriate and marginalize those who disagree. You have a poorer understanding of your country’s foreign policy history than a third world peasant, but you can’t wait to see what Julia Roberts will be wearing at the Oscars. You cheer as Ukrainians challenge an election based on exit poll data, but keep waiting around for someone else to fix your problems. You can’t think, you can’t organize and you won’t act. This is all your fault.

Smoking Gun: You’re fat.

Punishment: You’re soaking in it."

I'm pondering a post about how rebellious urges have been co-opted by the giant corporations that would be the targets of them, and what that means for politics, people, and the future, but I have to think about it more, first. But just think, what does "rebelling" mean when you go out and buy the rebellion from the same sources as what you think you're rebelling against?

First, I'm going to go try and work on a letter to the editor, one that I will actually send, this time.
