I'm an idiot

Apparently, I am. And one who's unable to tell the difference between "jokingly pretending to be offended and going along with it" and "actually being offended". Apparently, some people take me seriously. The line between truly annoying and jokingly annoying is fine, and one that is hard to find without feedback. And online, you lack many of the methods of feedback you have IRL.

But mostly, I'm an idiot, it seems.

It's REALLY hard to tell with some people online. I tend to be right around 75% of the time as to what emotion people are writing with, but I've been doing this online thing since 1986. If people don't indicate their emotion with emoticons, they shouldn't snap at you for not being psychic!

It wasn't exactly one isolated case, though, either. But if people don't tell you things, then, yes, they can't expect you to know them. Even the people you're closest to, sometimes.

True dat. I've experienced the like myself before, but I don't think I've ever actually been offended over the 'net myself. I have a sneaking suspicion that I may have -seemed- to be offended a couple of times before, though. It's a bit of a bother, especially when you're not much into using smilies.
