A statement of belief

Of course I'm going to stay in the US. I love America. Not the blindly jingoistic paranoid nation afraid of its shadow and ready to bomb anybody who looks at us funny. Not the would-be empire, invader, and liar our leaders have tried to make it. Not a land of torture and fear of speaking out. America, the way it was meant to be, the ideals and everything they taught us in school. America was founded by a bunch of misfits, outcasts, heretics, swindlers and the unwanted poor. "Desperate huddled masses" ring a bell? That's America. Bring us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses! Land of the free, home of the brave. Not home of the fearful and the desperate.
George W. Bush and the modern Republican leadership fundamentally don't understand America. They don't understand why it was founded, or what its ideals are. And they fundamentally misunderstand liberals. They, and all their propaganda preachers and rabble-rousers. They cry bull about liberals "Hating America". Fuck them. I love America, the America I learned about in school, the America of our ideals and our dreams. The shining city on a hill, not the walled-off fortress at the heart of an empire.
And so if Rush Limbaugh thinks that means I hate America, it just proves he's an idiot.
