A realization

forsythThinking back, I first got on the internet much at all when we got the old 486, with a 14.4 modem and Windows 3.1. This was back around tenth grade, so 1994/95/96ish. TEN YEARS. Holy crudmonkeys. The internet has been a major part of my life for ten years. Wow. I'm not sure what I think of that, but it makes me feel old.
First, for Magic, online, and IRC from that, though I mostly stopped doing that or visiting the IRC magic channels several years ago, probably 2000/2001ish... There's still a few people from then I keep in touch with, though not really regularly. Wow, I feel old.
And, the Internet also seems to have destroyed my memory for dates, as such. Everything just sorta blends, all the Internet stuff is a continuum, not really parsed. The world's changed a lot in that time.
Just wow. I'm not really sure what else to say. I wonder if I dig up the 486, wherever it is, I could find a first date for when I got online. Maybe not. And, well, the first actual time I got online was at a friend's house, who was showing me an IRC magic draft league he was in. I'm gonna go be nostalgic for a bit, via archive.org.
Edit: Looking at Wizards's site, Fallen Empires came out in November 94, so I started playing in late 94, early 95, I forget which. At least a few months before June, since that's when Ice Age came out. So it's been just about ten years, and I got online not too long after getting into Magic. Wow.
