A handy chart

This is the looming crisis of Social Security. 1.6 Trillion dollars in the Trust fund and still running a surplus.

Years down the road, even when the payments start costing more than the taxes take in, the Trust Fund will be able to pay benefits for many years.

Of course, then there wouldn't be the $150 billion Social Security surplus propping up the federal deficit and making it look smaller than it is, and the huge deficit we have now will get even huger.
