I wonder how many LJ posts are going to quote the Guy Fawkes rhyme because people saw V for Vendetta tomorrow.

I'm American, I don't care about some looney who didn't manage to blow up Parliment hundreds of years ago in another country.

Right. Us Americans don't give a flying fuck about any kind of history or culture that might happen to exist outside of our great country. It's not like stuff that happened in other places affects us. I mean, it's hardly even worth the effort to learn about our own history.

On the other hand, if you ever meet ANYONE from outside the US who doesn't know the intricate details of any of the following, you have the right to yell at them at length:
-The number of states of America, the capital of each state, where it is located, which famous films have been set or filmed there, and various other details including but not limited to size and population
-Every single thing that Abraham Lincoln ever said or did, including word-perfect versions of his speeches
-Ditto for JFK, George Washington, and actually, every single other president
-The American civil war
-The war of Independence
-The Vietnam war

There are probably countless more, but I've only listed the ones that I've actually been abused for not knowing.

Damn. The only thing I really know about is how many states we have. But, of course, we do need to hold you folks outside of the US to higher standards. So shame on you, sir, for ever not knowing every detail of our history. Especially when it comes to the words of Lincoln, our savior, who died for our sins to bring blacks freedom and unite the north and south in loving unity forever and ever.

You pretty much can just assume that anything I say is sarcastic, but I think sarcasm is more funny than mean.
