Cleaning Discoveries
Jan. 8th, 2007 04:04 pmI've been trying to clean my room and get rid of stuff lately. While cleaning, I came across a box which included some presents from an old girlfriend, who I haven't heard from in years. One of the things in it was a 100 count box of Crayola crayons, that had been a birthday present. I hadn't really thought much of them at the time, even though I knew the context since we'd been wandering around and come across the boxes at a Target and reminisced about drawing with crayons when we were kids. But combined with the other birthday presents, it hadn't really felt like much.
But today I opened the box of crayons, and those rows of pointy-tipped wax, and the smell, and everything felt like something. I'm not sure exactly what, but I think I'll hang on to the crayons. And, I hope, use them. That's what crayons are for, after all.
It's funny though. Only now, with years of distance between the moment and the relationship, does the present actually mean something to me.
