Bad Advice

One of the worst pieces of advice I picked up during my childhood came from parents, teachers, and even GI Joe. They all said it's better to walk away than to fight. Most of the time, that's not true. It doesn't do anything to stop the problem in most cases. And it keeps you from getting the things you need and want. And there's a lot of things worth fighting for. And things where you need to fight just to stay in the game. Not in the physical sense, perhaps, but still. So forget GI Joe.

When did a college education change from an education into job training that you pay for yourself? Because that's all a lot of degrees have become these days. And the costs keep going up, too. And you pretty much need a college education for almost any halfway decent job today. Nice setup for the companies, innit?

Am I naive?

I'm beginning to wonder if part of some of my problems is I always assume people are reasonable and halfway decent and will try to do the right thing if they have the chance and it's not something that hurts them. Evidence that I'm fundamentally wrong about humanity seems to be mounting, though. Which is really pretty depressing.
