Civilization 3 uses the word "Democracy" much like the Bush Administration does. It doesn't mean democracy like other people mean democracy, but it sounds pretty. In Civ3, you can never get voted out of office. At least in Civ2 the Senate would overrule you. You're still the Dictator-forever-and-ever. But your people are happier and more productive, as long as you're not at war. Whereas George Bush has Diebold and otherwise, it's just a pretty word he puts in speeches every few sentences, sorta like punctuation. Just like "Freedom", "terror", and "evil" have become.

Marie had a mutant power. She could make anyone fall madly in love with her. Not just tearing each other's clothes off lust, or the slavish devotion of an unrequited crush, (though it could do both of those too) but real love, where the her happiness became integral to the person's own.

And that's what tripped her up. She met the man of her dreams, fell head over heels. And the same for him. But the bastard'd been in love before, and told her she had to love herself before he could.

Unfortunately, her mutant power didn't work that way.

The King was a small and fearful man. Unfortunately, this hardly made him unique among kings. Much of the time, this was because the job of King was a very big job, far too big for any man. So any king by comparison seemed small. And the pressures of the job made any man fearful. Unlike other kings though, this King started that way and had perfected fear to an art. He turned his fear outward, and gave it to others, so it would blind them and make him seem brave and wise.

Sadly, it worked for far too long.
