Bitching about customers falls under the rubric of "something I know about" for purposes of talking. And is a ritual of sorts with retail people.

Also, I'm apparently now one degree of separation from a Playboy bunny.

This second item I found out because one of my co-workers, while we were straightening magazines after closing, said "My sister's a playboy bunny." She was putting stuff back by the softcore porn section at the time, so that's probably what made her think of it. I didn't respond, because what's one supposed to say to something like that.

But I would imagine that shortens my Roger Bacon chain a bunch.

On the other topic. One of the benefits of working at Barnes and Nobel, as opposed to a hobby store, is many more attractive women around. Both customers and co-workers. This isn't as much of a benefit as you'd think, though, because as a rule of life, pretty much every cute or attractive or interesting woman I've known has been unavailable. Also, I don't actually know any of them, and have nothing interesting to talk about. Thus the availability of bitching about customers leaving things anywhere.

Also, nerd recognition symbols such as "Cthulhu for President 2004" bumper stickers work. At letting nerds recognize each other, at least.

I think that's about all I wanted to say, I forget. What do you want, it's 1 AM.

I also warned people to beware of llamas via the PA system while we were cleaning up. I need to think of more amusing things.

Near where I work, there's a large Family Chrisitan Bookstores. I've not been in it, because I work at a bookstore. But it's on the way I walk from work to a deli a couple stores down from the FCB. So I get to walk past and look at the displays, most of which are generally generic retail displays, with more religious overtones. Which is what they sell, so duh.

But there's this one thing displayed in the window, that makes me go WTF?

It's a replica Crown of Thorns. For $49.95. 12" across.

Double-ewe Tee Eff? No, seriously. Why? What are you going to do with it, wear it for Jesus cosplay? Or is there a larger faction (sect?) out there that fetishizes the pain and suffering and death part of Jesus's story over the "Love, Peace, and Don't be a Dick" parts? You know how sometimes asking the question will give you the answer, especially when Mel Gibson made a big "Pain and Suffering!" flick recently? Yeah.

Still. It's creepy, on so many levels.
