Well, so much for posting every day this month. Heh. I went over to a friend's, and we watched several movies. Quickie reviews to follow.

The Grudge: A good horror movie, with nicely done creepy bits and special effects that didn't just seem like bad CGI.

Shaun of the Dead: Still good, still funny, and some nifty extras on the DVD.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow: Not since the last Star Wars prequel have so many cool things been wasted in such a bad movie. All of the characters were mind-numbingly stupid and apparently get from place to place by teleporting, because there's no way they could have managed to get where they did when they did otherwise sometimes. The worst part was Polly Perkins, the "ace reporter" chick. "There were seven of us scientists in this secret project, six of them have vanished." < Polly > "Who's the next target? Who?" Ow, my brain. She did nothing, added nothing to the plot, was the crappiest reporter EVER, lied to the hero when the fate of the world was at stake, and just generally ruined the movie. Well, helped ruin. Sigh. I so wanted to like that movie.

And that's about it, other than noting that if deer are going to be dumb enough to run out in front of you, there's few better times than late at night on an empty road, so you don't get run into by other idiots.

I don't know if anybody other than [livejournal.com profile] letiwolf who reads this knows anything about In Nomine, but I'm gonna need to work on statting out an NPC for an article for (hopefully) Pyramid, and I'm probably going to need help doing it, plus advice on how to make it balanced and not suck. So, if anybody can help, please lemme know.

On Editing

Maybe it's just me, and I'm weird, but I find it tremendously easier to edit stuff when it's on paper and I can write in the margins and stuff, as opposed to doing it on the computer. I think it's because of the portability, the ability to scratch things out and leave the original there, and so on. But for writing new things, I'm better with the keyboard. Guess it's just one of those things.

[EDIT: That is a truly weird ASCII "working" icon smiley up there.]

How did an obvious Republican operative from an unheard-of news outlet who uses a pseudonym - yeah, 'Jeff Gannon' isn't even his real name - and who looks as though he runs a gay prostitution ring in his spare time ever get credentials to cover the White House?

A guy with a fake name gets White House press credentials and asks President Bush softball, loaded partisan questions at press conferences. And his news organization is a conservative propaganda construct.

Holy bloody hell, you've got to be kidding me. Bribing pundits with taxpayer money, fake reporters with White House credentials... These people have no respect for the American People or the truth, do they? Holy hell. Remember when lying about sex was enough to get a president impeached? I mean, it's like they don't even CARE about getting caught any more.

The one that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales signed off on when he was White House counsel?

That one? There's a good explanation and examination of the twisted and abused language in it here.

My country, look what they've done to you.
