One thing I've learned, though I'm crap at putting into practice. People aren't psychic. If you want something, you have to let them know, and you have to let them know why it's important to you.

The same thing applies in politics, if you want politicians to do something, you have to tell them. On the most basic level, that means vote. But that's it for the political content here.

Maybe it's just me, but I kinda doubt it. I, and probably most people, don't generally spend that much time trying to figure out how other people think. We're occupied enough with trying to figure out how WE think, we take other people's actions and statements at face value, or at least something approximating it. If somebody doesn't mention something, then we have no way of knowing it matters. If something makes you upset, you have to mention it! Otherwise we have no way of knowing it did, or how.

Of course, this applies both ways, and it's harder than you'd think. Because to tell other people what you want, you have to let yourself admit what you want, and from there you have to be honest to other people and realize that sometimes, yes, people will say no. And other people will know what you actually want. It's harder than it looks, and scarier.

Sad to say, the only thing that's surprised me about this is that they got caught.

"Seeking to build support among black families for its education reform law, the Bush administration paid a prominent black pundit $240,000 to promote the law on his nationally syndicated television show and to urge other black journalists to do the same."

Yes, our tax money is going to bribe journalists to provide political advertising. To the tune of $240,000. NOW will anybody start giving a shit?

A bit of a story, from a mostly-unwritten story. I think those involved should be evident from the title, the exact context will be explained if/when I get around to writing the rest of the story.
