From Alberto Gonzales's Senate hearing: "Saying he was sickened and outraged by photos of Abu Ghraib abuses, Gonzales described the U.S. troops in them as "people who were morally bankrupt having fun." Other abuses of foreign detainees probably were caused because "there wasn't adequate training, there wasn't adequate supervision."" (via Yahoo News)

Right. Morally bankrupt having fun. Nothing to do with memos authorizing torture from on high, nope nope. The sad part is, lots of people will believe this.

"Despite their questioning, Democrats showed no interest in opposing or delaying Gonzales, the 49-year old son of Mexican immigrants, from succeeding John Ashcroft (news - web sites) as attorney general."

And THAT is why the Democratic party keeps losing, because they refuse to take a stand on something so bloody obvious as opposing a guy who TRIED TO JUSTIFY TORTURE for the chief law enforcement official for the US. Can we get a real party? Please?

CNN cancels Crossfire. I can't say I'm terribly sad to see it go. Huzzah for Jon Stewart, now he must remember to only use his powers for good, not evil.

"[CNN President] Mr. Klein specifically cited the criticism that the comedian Jon Stewart leveled at "Crossfire" when he was a guest on the program during the presidential campaign. Mr. Stewart said that ranting partisan political shows on cable were "hurting America."

Mr. Klein said last night, "I agree wholeheartedly with Jon Stewart's overall premise." He said he believed that especially after the terror attacks on 9/11, viewers are interested in information, not opinion."
