By all rights, something like this shouldn't have happened unless I forgot to make a left turn at Albuquerque. But no, somehow on the way home, I drove out of reality. A moment ago, just shadows in the headlights, now a dragon. Glowing red eyes under that safety barrier. One moment, just telephone poles, the next crucifixes line the road, like after the Romans put down a slave rebellion. These aren't sanitized myths that trot out every Halloween. They fill the road as far as the headlights can reach, things that go bump in the night I don't slow down.
