Small Ways # whatever: Don't eat anything you can't pronounce.
Welcome back to my infrequent series on making life not suck. This one's simple, even if not exactly literal. I mean, I don't know how to pronounce lots of foreign dishes, and I do know how to pronounce chemicals, thanks to taking chemistry. But, it's a guideline.
When you're gonna buy something, look at the ingredients list. If it contains lots of things like Monopolydiglyceride extracts and sodium dyslexate flapnoodle, those are usually chemical additives, mostly preservatives. Or flavoring, or other things. Not all of which are bad. I'm not gonna go into some kind of "chemicals bad, nature good!" rant, because that'd be silly and wrong. Natural and lab chemicals can both be bad or good for you. But in the US, the most common chemical additives are preservatives, which generally aren't good for you. I remember seeing a statistic that Americans take like three years longer to rot after death, because of all the preservatives we've eaten.
Those chemicals don't just go right through you, they get absorbed, and spread through your body, into every cell. If you can't even pronounce it, are you sure you'd trust it enough to suffuse your whole body?
